Members’ Code of Conduct

At Gravity Climbing Centre, we welcome and encourage everyone to use our facilities and want every contact you have with us to be a positive experience. This customer code of conduct is intended to provide clear guidance on the standards of behaviour expected from visitors to our venue.

Our team is dedicated to delivering a welcoming, safe, and high-quality experience. Staff are responsible for supporting members, maintaining facilities, and ensuring health and safety standards are upheld.

All members are expected to treat staff with courtesy and respect at all times.

Zero Tolerance for Staff Abuse

Gravity operates a strict Zero Tolerance Policy in relation to abuse of staff. Any behaviour deemed abusive, threatening, or inappropriate may result in immediate and permanent termination of membership without refund.

When visiting Gravity, we ask our customers to;

  • Treat our employees and fellow customers with courtesy and respect

  • Use our facility, equipment and property in a respectful manner.

  • Follow all instructional signage and instructions given by staff and adhere to the conditions of use, (for your own safety and that of others).

  • Report incidents or concerns about the conduct of others to one of our staff immediately.

Unacceptable behaviour:

Visitors who experience or witness incidents of unacceptable behaviour are encouraged to report them to a member of staff so that action can be taken.

Unacceptable behaviour generally falls into the following categories:

General nuisance and disruption

  • Swearing which causes offence and distress to staff and customers.

  • Carrying out any activity that is not permitted in Gravity.

  • Recording or taking photographs of any other person in Gravity without prior consent.

  • Any behaviour which puts the health and safety of yourself or others at risk.

  • Lack of regard for the person’s own safety or that of other climbers.

  • Abuse/threatening behaviour of any kind.

Climbing Etiquette

As well as adhering to safety procedures and centre rules, all visitors should refrain from the following behaviours:

  • Spotting or power-spotting a climber on the wall without the climber’s consent. Supporting or touching any part of the climber’s body while on the wall should only be done with the expressed consent of the climber. In very exceptional circumstances, spotting a climber could prevent an accident or injury and can be carried out in order to prevent an imminent injury.

  • While Gravity is a friendly and social environment, please be aware that unsolicited advice and coaching may not be welcome. Please ask before offering advice.

Harassment or discrimination, bullying or discriminatory behaviour based on race, gender, disability, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, sex, sexual orientation, religion, age or any other characteristic will not be tolerated. Everyone deserves to feel safe and welcome.

This includes, but it not limited to;

  • Abusive, threatening, and derisory personal remarks and statements made directly at staff or customers.

  • Any hate crime related behaviour.

  • Harassment of any kind, including sexual harassment, unwelcome physical contact, physical violence, unwanted comments about a person’s looks, dress, sexuality, age or gender, unwanted flirting, lewd behaviour etc.

  • Any forms of non-physical aggression.

Physical abuse/threatening behaviour/criminal activity will not be tolerated and may also lead to criminal charges.

This includes, but it not limited to;

  • Actual physical contact with staff or customers which is intended to injure and/or intimidate.

  • Any criminal activity including drug and alcohol related behaviour, carrying of offensive weapons.

  • Vandalism, including causing damage to the site, its contents or fixture and fittings.

  • Theft of property or another customer’s property.

  • Verbal Abuse or Harassment; Aggressive, offensive, insulting, or profane language, gestures, or comments directed at staff.

  • Threatening or Intimidating Behaviour; any conduct that causes a staff member to feel unsafe, including bullying, intimidation, or aggressive posturing.

  • Physical Contact or Assault; Any unwanted physical contact, pushing, touching, or assault. Such incidents may be reported to An Garda Síochána.

Minors

Gravity welcomes children aged 7 yrs – 13 under Parent/ Guardian/ Instructor supervision and over 14’s as independent climbers. All members should be aware that;

  • They are using a facility which welcomes minors and that their safety and well-being is of utmost importance.

  • That adults interacting with children in sport are in a position of trust and influence. They should always ensure that children are treated with integrity and respect.

  • Any inappropriate behaviour or language toward a minor is unacceptable.

  • Any behaviour which causes concern should be reported to staff. The centre DLP is Angela Carlin. If there is an immediate and serious risk of harm, contact the Gardaí at 999 or 112. For non-urgent issues, contact your local Garda station or the Garda confidential line at 1800 666 111.

Obstructing Staff Duties

Refusing to follow reasonable instructions relating to health and safety, equipment use, or facility rules.

Inappropriate Personal Requests

Seeking private information from staff or making excessive, unreasonable, or inappropriate personal demands.

Filming and Photography

To protect the privacy, dignity, and comfort of all members and staff, the use of mobile phones, cameras, wearable devices, or recording equipment to capture other individuals is not permitted.

Strictly Prohibited Areas; Filming or photography is strictly forbidden in changing rooms.

Recording of Self Only

  • Members may record themselves for training purposes only if:

  • No other member or staff member is visible or audible.

  • Climbing areas and walkways are not obstructed.

  • Recording ceases immediately if requested by staff.

  • Recording does not disrupt other members.

Breach of Policy

Whilst incidents are few, if our code of conduct is breached, we may take the following action(s) to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for the community.

  • Suspension of membership

  • Implementation and enforcement of exclusion from our centre

  • Permanent termination of membership without refund

  • Reporting to An Garda Síochána
